The Other Side of Fast Food

In October 2010, Corriere Magazine invited me to delve into an unexpected slice of urban life: the McDonald’s at Piazza Duomo, Milan, in conjunction with Oliviero Toscani’s exhibition on diversity. My reportage captured the intense rhythm of a global fast-food icon. I documented the employees’ relentless shifts, the ceaseless preparation of meals, and the swift flow of customers, all driven by the demands of speed and efficiency. Simultaneously, I portrayed the other side of the restaurant: families seeking refuge in its welcoming environment and children engaging in the recreational activities offered. The images reveal a microcosm of contrasts, where industrial efficiency intersects with the everyday humanity of gestures and the fast-food space as a place of social interaction.
